EGGciting Times in First Grade

The first grade girls are having a wonderful spring! We have enjoyed playing outside and going on nature walks thanks to this beautiful weather.  In math the girls have been studying fractions and geometry.  We made fraction kites and pizza fractions to practice our skills.  In language arts the girls have been writing wonderful poems.  We have learned about color poems, haiku, and are now working on autobiographical poems.  In social studies we studied Eater and Passover, which culminated in a spring festival.  At the festival the girls made crafts, read stories, and tried traditional foods. Science has been completely devoted to DUCKS. Our eggs have one more week in the incubator.  While we wait for our ducklings to hatch the girls have been studying and researching about oviparous animals. Each girl has her own duck folder where a lot of hard work and research is kept.  Today we did an experiment involving vinegar and an egg. We let the egg sit over night in a container of vinegar and the results were very exciting! The egg shell deteriorated and left us with an egg that resembles a bouncy ball. See us in action below!

French: Ice cream day

The 1st grade girls have been learning how to order food in French and today they visited the famous French ice cream shop, Berthillon.  They had a blast putting their new French skills to good use.
