Counting Money in 2nd Grade

Second graders are recognizing, naming, and learning the value of each coin. The students are calculating the total amount of a collection of different coins by ordering their value from greatest to least and then skip counting and doing mental math.

Zoo Design Research

Second graders have been busy researching assigned animals using online resources like the San Diego Zoo, Maryland Zoo, and National Geographic Kids and collecting real-life information from zookeepers at the Maryland Zoo!  Using this information, students will create a 3D model of an exhibit for their animal taking into consideration the perspective of the zookeeper, animal, and visitor.
