                  2nd Grade Language Arts
                         "Molly's Pilgrim"
In language arts class the girls read, "Molly's Pilgrim." This classic Thanksgiving story tells the tale of Molly and her family who have emigrated from Russia to the United States to begin a new life. As the only Jewish girl in 3rd grade, Molly is teased about her accent and her unfamiliarity with American customs. When the class is asked to make clothespin dolls of Pilgrims and Native Americans, Molly is embarrassed when her mother helps her make her doll which looks more like a Russian refugee rather than a New England Pilgrim woman. Soon, however, Molly and the entire class learn that "it takes all kinds of Pilgrims to make a Thanksgiving."

The girls enjoyed crafting their own Pilgrim clothes pin dolls.
