Art_Color Painting

The girls have been busy with color all fall and now they are
celebrating COLOR with an abstract painting.

The rules: They cannot paint anything they know and the subject of the painting must be color.

  • The first goal is to cover the whole paper.
  • The second step is to intentionally use complementary colors.
  • The third step is to make sure neutrals are in the painting. Neutrals are like the host of the party and make all the guests feel welcome. Neutrals are, by definition comprised of some amount of the three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow, thus are essential at making other colors relate.
  • Fourth, the students analyze the painting for darks and lights and mix tints and shades of one of their colors and add it to the painting.
  • Lastly, the girls make the finishing touches. They may add small marks or bigs marks or whatever holds the whole painting together.

The ultimate goal of the painting is to engage someone with the whole composition and its individual parts which is similar to a writer's goal being of getting someone to read the whole book and understand the message.
